My name is Melissa. I am a Registered Psychologist who has over 15 years of experience as a school teacher and counsellor. In 2016, I obtained my Masters of Education at the University of Calgary, specializing in School and Applied Child Psychology. I am formally trained in psychoeducational assessments and have completed assessments in school districts and private practice settings. I have also completed trainings in play therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, internal family systems, motivational interviewing, and crisis intervention. Currently, I am completing my Advanced Diploma in Art Therapy with the Vancouver Art Therapy Institute.
I feel that being playful, creative, and curious is how we are able to build meaningful connection with others. As a psychologist, I believe that it is important for me to use these skills to promote effective therapeutic relationships, which can help to inspire growth and change in others. My approaches to counselling include trauma-informed, evidence-based practices with a foundation in cognitive behavioural therapy along with other sensory-based approaches including art, strengths-based, narrative, and play therapy techniques.
I enjoy helping others discover their inner potential in order to help them achieve their goals. Working together, I can help guide you towards a better understanding of yourself, your relationships, and your potential for growth!
